_   For our book club we had to choose from a variety of books and I ended up with the book The Barcode Tattoo, at first I didn’t know what to expect of this book because I am not a big reader but after starting the book I realized that it was actually a good plot and the way it was written was very good.

The main plot of the book is it’s about a sixteen year old girl named Kayla, she lives in America in the year 2025. There is a tattoo which is a barcode that has replaced lots of things like you no longer have to use or carry a credit card they can just scan your arm, the eliminated the need for a health card and driver’s  license because everything about you is  represented in your barcode. This all sounds good though, you get it when your sixteen and suddenly life is easier, but not in Kayla’s case. There are a group of people called the resistance that think the barcode is evil and can kill you, at first Kayla was hesitant about it but when her father took his own life it became clear to her that it was evil.

Growing up Kayla always had her best friend Amber to help her through things but amber ended up moving out to live with relatives when her father’s tattoo started to not work for some unknown reason.  Kayla wanted to know what the tattoo was really about so she asked her neighbor about it because he was the one that was doing them. He said he wanted to know to, but when he found out what was in it he was shot and killed before he could tell anyone.

Throughout the rest of the book Kayla continues to resist the tattoo and keeps trying to find out what it is really about.  She stays with a few friends that are all doing the same thing. After her father’s death her mother had turned into a serious drinker and had lost her job. As she knew it Kayla’s life was crashing all around her but she kept on pursuing her goal of not getting the tattoo which doesn’t look to well for her.

All and all this was a good book and I actually enjoyed the book. If anyone else doesn’t like to read or even likes to anyway I would recommend this book to you.
